Position Summary:
The Department of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor faculty position to teach primarily in our MSW Program beginning Fall 2024. MSU Denver’s Department of Social Work prides itself on a richly talented faculty comprised of teacher-scholars who are highly dedicated to support students in growing as social work scholars, practitioners, and leaders in the multitude of settings social workers perform.

Position Title: Accounting Assistant

Position Summary:
The Department of Social Work is a rapidly growing academic unit consisting of undergraduate and graduate education and includes the Master of Social Work Program, Bachelor of Science in Social Work Program, grants and contract services, the Office of Field Education, and the Office of Social Work Student Services, Operations and Finance (OSWSS-OF). The Accounting Assistant works on the OSWSS- OF team to provide support with purchasing, payroll, expense reporting, and budget reconciliation for department expenditures and externally funded projects. The Accounting Assistant works under the direction of the Associate Director of Operations and Finance (ADOF). The Accounting Assistant must be able to adapt to a rapidly changing and growing Department, anticipating the needs of the key responsibility areas and strategic goals of the OSWSS-OF team and Department of Social Work, and modifying activities and processes accordingly.
Responsibilities:
Budget Support & Accounting Services – 80%
The Accounting Assistant must have a high attention to detail and ability to multitask to support financial tracking and accounting activities in the Department that consist of State funds, cash funds, and external grant and contract funds. The Department directly manages over $5M annually, and the Accounting Assistant tracks and reports on expenditures in several categories including materials and supplies, travel, grants and scholarly awards approval and spending, professional development funding, student employment budgets etc. This role assists with processing of student stipends and scholarships with the Sponsored Projects Accounting and Compliance office, Financial Aid and Accounts Payable. This position must be well-versed in university accounting and travel policies and procedures set forth by MSU Denver, the State of Colorado, and external funding sources.
This position supports faculty, staff, and students by processing accounting and travel paperwork documentation and purchasing materials and supplies with an eye to continual improvement in the effectiveness of this area. The Accounting Assistant will meet with staff and faculty to plan professional development purchases and travel arrangements and will track these expenditures in line with the departmental budget. The Accounting Assistant works with the ADOF to improve documentation and tracking processes in Workday, Excel, and Banner. The successful candidate will be able to flex when procedures and staff change, as can happen frequently.
Personnel Coordination Support – 10%
The Accounting Assistant also supports personnel coordination including onboarding and payroll setup for adjunct faculty and student employment. The Accounting Assistant will track student employment expenses and onboarding processes, including job requisition creation and monitoring. Additionally, the Accounting Assistant coordinates the preparation and submission of supplemental pay documentation for externally funded projects as well as for administrative and teaching supplements.
Academic Services Support and Special Projects – 10%
The Accounting Assistant works to support the Associate Director of Operations and Finance on assigned projects for key faculty positions in the Department of Social Work including the Chair, BSSW Program Director, MSW Program Director, Assessment Coordinator and Online Coordinator. Supported activities may include administering the student travel program, supporting accreditation and curriculum requirements and activities, assisting with data collections and/or assessment activities or other activities per the direction of the ADOF, the OSWSS-OF Director or the Department Chair. The Accounting Assistant supports the processing and accounting for scholarly funded activities.
